The Girls & God Journal
Quiz: Can You Spot the Truth?
The Answers:
Astrology is…
- The study of stars and planetary movements (That would be Astronomy – though the two practices were lumped together centuries ago.)
- An attempt to learn how celestial movements relate to human affairs (We have a winner. But notice it is an attempt. There is no scientific proof to back any of this up, and, well, see #2 below)
- A reliable way to plan your future. (Uhhhm yeah, that would be a big, fat no.)
Reading your horoscope is…
- An unpardonable sin (I doubt it’s unpardonable…kind of depends on your motive.)
- Harmless (Not harmless. See below)
- A form of idolatry (Yes! Now, my reasoning is this. Anytime we lift “something” up above God, it is a form of idolatry. If God has not given us knowledge on something, and we go somewhere else (other than God) to try and get that knowledge…voila! You have idolatry.)
Witchcraft is…
- A religion just like any other (Yeah, yeah, yeah, it’s a religion. Just happens to be totally and completely a false one.)
- Just fictional (Not so much. It’s very real, and practiced today by more than 400,000 people in America.)
- a practice expressly forbidden by God. (Yes! Check out Deut 18: 10-12… or even Micah 5:12. Or 2 Kings 17:17)
Using a Ouija Board is…
- Just a kid’s game (Definitely not. Yes, it’s in the kid’s game section of Toys R Us – which just shows you how immune we’ve become. See the next question.)
- an open invitation for demonic powers (There really are “spiritual beings” that we cannot see. When you try to “contact spirits”, you are opening the door to all sorts of evil things. You never know what you might allow in when you play these so-called “games."
- a way to contact those that have died. (There is absolutely nothing in scripture that suggests that we can talk to or communicate with the dead. I have my theories on this, but I’ll save them for a later time…)
White witchcraft…
- is harmless, maybe even beneficial (Well, that’s what they would tell you. But if you are getting “power” then you must have a source for that power. If that source is not God, then it’s not good!)
- is still influenced and powered by the enemy (Yes.)
- is an empowering choice for young women (NO! The most powerful choice you can make is to surrender to God. I know it seems crazy, but trust me on this one J
Kabbalah
- has roots in Judaism (Actually, this is true.)
- is a religion led by Madonna (No, but she’s likely the most famous practitioner)
- is a harmless, spiritual practice (No. Because once again, if it’s not God, it’s not good. Kabballah is full of a lot of…well, if you really want to go, go have fun on Wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabbalah)
Divination is…
- an attempt to understand future direction through supernatural means (Yes. A very bad attempt to get wisdom from the enemy…)
- one way God might lead us (No. See Acts 16:16-18)
- a practice that one can safely use to make decisions (That would be no. Anytime you get answers from someone other than God – beware.)
Satan is…
1. simply a symbol of all that is evil. (Nope, not a symbol…see below)
2. a real being that has (limited) power and knowledge (Job 1: 6-12 and Is 14:12-20 and 1 Peter 5:8.)
3. a story used to scare people into following God (No. That’s just not God’s style. He doesn’t want to scare you into loving him. He wants you to do because you want to.)
